In anticipation of DreamWidth’s Open Beta (hopefully tonight at 9:00 EDT!), for the members and readers of the [community profile] milk_and_orchids community’s consideration, amusement and possible inspiration, another recipe from: The Nero Wolfe Cookbook by Rex Stout and the Editors of the Viking Press, Capon Souvaroff, an entrée served at Wolfe’s table, described by Archie in the Nero Wolfe novel, Death of a Doxy.

The dish itself calls for several exotic, possibly controversial and expensive ingredients: capon, pâté de foie gras, cognac and truffles – eight whole black truffles to be exact and if purchased at today’s prices ($175 per truffle and higher), might explain why Archie needs to keep a constant eye on the balance of Wolfe’s bank account.

I can’t help but think that Archie was lucky to miss this particular meal ;-)
